BrewBoat CLE Captains are responsible for the safe and economical operation of the BrewBoat in compliance with applicable safety regulations. The incumbent ensures safe transportation of all passengers on predefined BrewBoat cruise routes.

This is a seasonal position, running from May to October 2022.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides safe and courteous operation of BrewBoat Cleveland vessels, obeying all applicable laws, procedures, and maintaining scheduled times, including monitoring of weather and traffic in applicable waterways.
  • Acts as a representative of BrewBoat Cleveland to the public, community groups, Coast Guard, and other appropriate governmental agencies to provide information concerning BrewBoat operations.
  • Prepares and submits reports and completes special projects as directed. Performs and completes proper pre-trip and post-trip inspections and forms. Reports maintenance concerns to Manager and/or Ownership.
  • Maintains a clean maritime and driving record which includes an NDR review every 12 months.
  • Performs general maintenance checks on the BrewBoats daily. Ensures a physically safe and environmentally sound working environment, proper tools, training, facilities, and materials for all crew members. Conducts required emergency drills. Possesses the ability to determine safe or unsafe conditions. Washes the vessel and cleans interior.
  • Maintains a neat appearance and clean uniform. Displays professional courtesy and represents BrewBoat Cleveland in a positive manner.
  • Ensures that the safety of guests and crewmembers is maximized through careful and vigorous definition, administration, and enforcement of safety policies and guidelines. Coordinates emergency response. Participates in meetings, training, drills, and safety audits as required by USCG and company policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Experience commensurate with the below-cited credentials, licenses and certifications required. Previous charter boat or water taxi experience preferred. Previous experience in Cleveland-area waterways preferred.
  • Must be aged 21 or older.
  • Must possess all required credentials, licenses and/or certifications to operate BrewBoat CLE in the designated bodies of water, including, but not limited to:
    • Department of Homeland Security Transportation Worker Identification Credential (“TWIC”);
    • Merchant Mariner Credential
    • Master Mariner
    • 25 Gross Registered Tonnage Required, 100 Gross Registered Tonnage Preferred
    • Great Lakes and Inland Waters
    • FCC Commercial Radio Operator License – Preferred
  • Knowledge of all laws, rules and regulations pertaining to maritime operations.
  • Knowledge of all nautical safety-related best practices.
  • Knowledge of vessel mechanical operation and demonstrated ability to conduct routine preventive maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Proven strong working relationship with local United States Coast Guard (“USCG”) division.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with the ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.

WAGE: $27.50 per hour (plus tips!)
HOURS: Full-Time: 36-46 per week / Part-Time: 18-24 per week, dependant upon booking capacity
